    Relationships of business strategies and organizational characteristics with innovation types: Application in service companies

    Various authors maintain that innovation practices depend on business strategies, therefore companies must configure an organizational structure that facilitates the coordination of tasks and allows objectives to be reached. In a sample of 203 service companies, an analysis was carried out of the influence of business strategies and organizational characteristics on technical innovation and administrative innovation. The results indicate that there is an important relationship between the business strategy and the technical and administrative innovations. On the other hand, organizational characteristics only had a significant relationship with technical innovation but not with the administrative innovation.Varios autores sostienen que las prácticas de innovación dependen de las estrategias de negocio. Por consiguiente, las empresas deben configurar una estructura organizacional que facilite la coordinación de tareas y permita alcanzar los objetivos. En una muestra de 203 empresas de servicio se realizó un análisis de la influencia de las estrategias de negocio y de las características organizacionales en la innovación técnica y la innovación administrativa. Los resultados indican la existencia de una relación importante entre la estrategia de negocio y las innovaciones técnicas y administrativas. Además se encontró que las características organizacionales solo mostraron una relación significativa con la innovación técnica, pero no así con la innovación administrativa

    Role of empowerment and identification with work teams in innovation climate

    Several studies argue that an organizational climate oriented to promote innovation generates greater competitiveness in companies. However, very few researchers have explored the factors that lead to the formation of innovation climate and their effects on workers' performance. Based on a sample of 201 workers from manufacturing and service companies, an analysis was carried out to examine the influence of variables like empowerment and Identification with work teams in innovation climate. Furthermore, the influence of innovation climate on job performance and work commitment was analyzed. The results indicate that there is a positive relationship among the variables of the hypotheses, empowerment and Identification with work teams influence in innovation climate, and the latter influences work performance and work commitment

    The influence of the project team efficacy and organizational factors on the success of mining project management

    Some authors have proposed that project team efficacy influences the success of project management; however, this relationship has not been well investigated. The objectives of this study are to analyze the relationship between project team efficacy and the success of project management and to examine three moderator variables (task uncertainty, task interdependence, and chaos effect) in the relationship between them. This study was based on a sample of 52 mining work teams. The suggested hypotheses were con-firmed, there is an influential relationship between project team efficacy and the success of mining project management, as well as the significance of the moderate variables.Algunos autores han propuesto que la eficacia del equipo del proyecto influye en el ?xito de la gesti?n del proyecto. Sin embargo, esta relaci?n no ha sido bien investigada.     Mobile Personal Health Monitoring for Automated Classification of Electrocardiogram Signals in Elderly

    Mobile electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring is an emerging area that has received increasing attention in recent years, but still real-life validation for elderly residing in low and middle-income countries is scarce. We developed a wearable ECG monitor that is integrated with a self-designed wireless sensor for ECG signal acquisition. It is used with a native purposely designed smartphone application, based on machine learning techniques, for automated classification of captured ECG beats from aged people. When tested on 100 older adults, the monitoring system discriminated normal and abnormal ECG signals with a high degree of accuracy (97%), sensitivity (100%), and specificity (96.6%). With further verification, the system could be useful for detecting cardiac abnormalities in the home environment and contribute to prevention, early diagnosis, and effective treatment of cardiovascular diseases, while keeping costs down and increasing access to healthcare services for older persons

    Mobile Personal Healthcare System for Non-Invasive, Pervasive and Continuous Blood Pressure Monitoring: A Feasibility Study

    Background: Smartphone-based blood pressure (BP) monitor using photoplethysmogram (PPG) technology has emerged as a promising approach to empower users with self-monitoring for effective diagnosis and control ofhypertension (HT). Objective: This study aimed to develop a mobile personal healthcare system for non-invasive, pervasive, and continuous estimation of BP level and variability to be user-friendly to elderly. Methods: The proposed approach was integrated by a self-designed cuffless, calibration-free, wireless and wearable PPG-only sensor, and a native purposely-designed smartphone application using multilayer perceptron machine learning techniques from raw signals. We performed a pilot study with three elder adults (mean age 61.3 ± 1.5 years; 66% women) to test usability and accuracy of the smartphone-based BP monitor. Results: The employed artificial neural network (ANN) model performed with high accuracy in terms of predicting the reference BP values of our validation sample (n=150). On average, our approach predicted BP measures with accuracy \u3e90% and correlations \u3e0.90 (P \u3c .0001). Bland-Altman plots showed that most of the errors for BP prediction were less than 10 mmHg. Conclusions: With further development and validation, the proposed system could provide a cost-effective strategy to improve the quality and coverage of healthcare, particularly in rural zones, areas lacking physicians, and solitary elderly populations

    Estudio exploratorio en gestión de proyectos

    Several authors argue that project management is conducted with quantitative techniques that correspond to a linear cause-effect behavior; however, it should be treated with techniques that correspond to a nonlinear cause and effect behavior. This study explores the behavior of project management under a non-linear cause-effect approach using chaos theory and four project management variables: time, human resources, quality, and cost. Parkinson's law and chaos theory are used; mathematical equations are formulated to explain nonlinear cause-effect behavior in project management. The study was conducted considering the experience of management in mining projects. The mathematical model found can be used by academics to deepen the analysis of the reasons for the complexity of project management. Also, this study is useful for managers in making decisions to calculate the expected duration of the project.Diversos autores sostienen que la gestión de proyectos se conduce con técnicas cuantitativas que corresponden a un comportamiento de causa-efecto lineal; sin embargo, debería ser tratada con técnicas que corresponden a un comportamiento de causa-efecto no lineal. Este estudio explora el comportamiento de la gestión de proyectos bajo un enfoque de causa-efecto no lineal utilizando la teoría del caos y cuatro variables de gestión proyectos: tiempo, recurso humano, calidad, y costo. Se utiliza la ley de Parkinson y la teoría del caos, se formulan ecuaciones matemáticas para explicar el comportamiento de causa-efecto no lineal en la gestión de proyectos. El estudio fue realizado considerando la experiencia de la gestión en proyectos mineros. El modelo matemático encontrado puede ser utilizado por los académicos para profundizar el análisis de los motivos de la complejidad de la gestión de proyectos. Asimismo, este estudio es de utilidad para los gerentes en la toma de decisiones para el cálculo de la duración esperada del proyecto

    One of the possible adversities with which a person is faced in search for knowledge is the no access to the information or school services.The present work will discuss the application of information technology and communication in a community of practice and learning, through a small group of people with a common purpose, including people involved in education and students. A community of practice and learning will be created, where information technology and communication will be applied to share information, experiences and knowledge content, opening a gap to develop new teaching strategies to facilitate a learning environment enriched implemented in communities of practice and learning. Inferring that the use of information technology and communication confirm the successful trajectory of people within a community of practice and learning throughout the educational process. These findings indicated the need to strengthen training and teacher training in the use of information technologies and communication.Una de las posibles adversidades con las que se enfrenta una persona en busca del conocimiento es el no acceso a la información o a los servicios escolares. En el presente trabajo de investigación se analizará la aplicación de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación en una comunidad de práctica y aprendizaje a través de un grupo de personas con un fin en común, entre ellas, aquellas que están dedicadas a la educación y estudiantes. Se desarrollará una comunidad de práctica y aprendizaje, donde se aplicarán las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación para compartir información, experiencias y contenidos de conocimiento, abriendo una brecha para el desarrollo de nuevas estrategias de enseñanza para facilitar un ambiente de aprendizaje enriquecido aplicado a una comunidad de práctica y aprendizaje. Infiriendo que el uso de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación confirman la trayectoria exitosa de aquellas personas dentro de una comunidad de práctica y aprendizaje a lo largo del proceso educativo.
